From the group exhibition at 57W57ARTS (March 2018) The project originated from a proposal by Sue Ravitz to photograph her collection of 1950-60s cigarette boxes. I decided to force contradiction within them by using them as vessels of ‘healthy’ objects as opposed to their intention to carry cigarettes. However, the intent of the project is not a critique on cigarette smoking as I, myself, am an occasional smoker. The project serves a more humorous purpose due to the hypocrisy of the box usage.
